Foskers purchased this vehicle for restoration in 2008. Due to our increasing work load the car lay dormant for just over a year before restoration works could begin. In the summer of 2009 the car began its rejuvenation process.
With the body painted covered and sealed it was time for this car to be brought back to life. The car had been stripped by us approximately 12 months ago. The body team worked their magic with only minor rust and corrosion to deal with, it now has a new coat of Rosso Corsa bringing out the unmistakeable lines and shape of a boxer.
Following a very busy and successful summer the restoration department had space to bring down the next Ferrari in the queue. Restoration technician Matthew Sheppard was tasked with the 512 Boxer assembly.
Most of the suspension and running gear had already been plaited and rebuilt, just a few hub bearings and bushes then they were ready for installation. As Matthew progressed through the car fuel lines, the brake pipes were completed, as were the cooling and electrical systems. As always interior and doors are one of the most detailed areas to get right and this car was no different. With Matthew wrestling with a window lifting system that only Ferrari could have designed our trimmers were taking care of the leather. The dash was recovered, whilst consoles and seats were freshened up and reconnolised retaining that important originality. The carpets were remade and leather edged. The inside of this car was worthy of the classic era.
The engine and gearbox assembles only required light cosmetic restoration due to the documented mileage of this car and they were soon reunited with the chassis. As Matthew’s attention focused on final detail the engine was soon running and the task of tuning and balancing this monster engine could begin. As pops and spits turned to a smooth roar, the stainless exhaust was enhancing the overall effect. The 1st run was only days away.
