Foskers Race Team Results 2011

The 2011 Pirelli Ferrari Open got under way on the 30th April, at the Silverstone race circuit in Northamptonshire. Team Foskers were buzzing with anticipation, and looking forward to the new season. The team now consists of 3 drivers, Paul Brooks and Nick Kaye both driving Ferrari 456 GTs, and the team’s latest addition Vance Kearney, sporting a Ferrari 355 challenge.

All preparations made by the team, seemed to be going well for all three drivers, Kaye setting the fastest lap whilst battling it out with Brooks. However, disaster struck for Nick, and he was forced to retire due to an electrical fault. A frustrating way to go out no doubt, especially on your debut. Paul continued on to claim his first win in class, and let’s not forget Kearney who finished 6th in class.

Moving on to rounds 2 and 3 of the season which were both held at Donnington Park on 28th/29th May. On day 1, Kaye was keen to make up for the lost points in the last race and done exactly that with a 1st in class win. Brooks taking 2nd in class, whilst Vance Kearney improved on the first race by finishing 4th in class.

Day 2, the 3rd race of the calendar saw another win in class for Nick Kaye, making it a double for the weekend and the ever improving Vance Kearney finishing in 2nd. Paul Brooks finished a respectable 3rd in class. Nick Kaye achieved the fastest laps in both races, Foskers first 1,2,3 of the season.

July 2nd took us to sandy Zandvoort in the Netherlands, for rounds 4 & 5. The first race was incredibly exciting, with Paul Brooks getting the fastest lap and  Kaye winning his class. Kearney came 2nd in class whilst Brooks in the 456 GT finished 3rd.

Race 5 resulted in yet another win in class for Kaye, and the fastest lap in the process, a 3rd in class for Brooks, and 4th in class for Vance.

Spa-Francorchamps was the next venue on the calendar for rounds 6 and 7. Nick Kaye continued his good form with another 1st in class. Despite posting the fastest lap Paul Brooks just missed out on the top spot and finished in 2nd. Vance Kearney finished in 3rd, making it another 1,2,3 for the Foskers cars.

For race 7 the heavens opened up, and it rained continuously, Kearney (the rain master) was the only driver out of the three who had a smile on his face. Tyres were changed, along with suspension settings, and as predicted Vance took a class win, his first win of the season, Brooks went about his business finishing 3rd in class, and the dominant Kaye could only manage a 4th in class.

The season rolled on to round 9, on the 29th August, it was held at Castle Coombe, and would prove to be a very successful weekend for Paul Brooks, taking 1st in class and the fastest lap, dissimilarly to Nick Kaye who unfortunately found himself spinning backwards into the tyre wall at 130mph during qualifying. Thankfully Nick was not seriously injured, this was not the case for the car, which was written off, and unable to be repaired. This was a premature end to Nicks season, and a massive disappointment to Nick and the whole team, as a championship win was in sight. The 355 challenge of Kearney finished strongly with a 2nd in class.

Snetterton race circuit was the venue for rounds 10 and 11. The first race saw Vance win for the second time this season. A high speed tyre blow out for Paul meant he was unable to finish, although to the amazement of the marshals, managed to control the car and not collide with the barriers.

The 11th race saw Paul achieve a better result than the day before with a win in class and the fastest lap, however it was Vance’s turn for some bad luck as he did not finish due to his Ferrari 355 challenge overheating.

A return to Silverstone for the penultimate and final races on the calendar, the story was the same for both races. Paul Brooks capping off a successful season with 1st in class and set fastest laps for both races, mean while, Vance Kearney was runner up in class again.

So all in all a very successful season for the Foskers Race Team, with 12 race wins, 7 seconds, 5 thirds and 11 fastest laps in class. Celebrations will take place at Ardencote Manor in Warwickshire on the 19th November. At present we have reserved a table for 12 people, if you would like to join in our celebrations then drop us an email with the number of people you wish to attend with.

I myself have been called upon as chief photographer and reporter, apparently last year the photo’s for the website were forgotten about until 2 o’clock the following morning, and I must say the team didn’t look their best. So let’s see if I can do a better job than Colin and the passing waitress.

Congratulations everybody!
