Autumn Motorsport Day
As predicted, Saturdays Autumn Motorsport Day at Brooklands Museum attracted a huge turnout of car fanatics.
There was a fantastic selection of cars on show for the spectators to gaze upon, from the 1913 Nazzaro to the latest Ferrari 458 GTR race car.
The Foskers class ‘0’ championship winning Ferrari 456 GT received a lot of interest, particularly from the younger enthusiasts wanting to have their photo taken whilst sitting in the car. In the morning, driver Paul Brooks took the 456 for a five lap parade around the circuit. In the afternoon we were fortunate enough to be given one of the best spots in the grounds to show off our car, right in front of the museum, and only two cars down from Brooklands own 24 litre Napier Railton.
Driver John Cobb achieved many World land speed records in this very car, including, Brooklands Outer Circuit lap record of 143.44mph in 1936. The Napier Railton’s racing days came to an end in 1939 due to the outbreak of World War 2. Since then this 16ft 3in beast has been in the possession of many different owners before Brooklands, it has starred in a film along the way.
After the parade laps, lots of people commented on the fantastic sound the 456 when Paul gave it full throttle. People were keen to know how the season went and how The Foskers team got on; Paul was on hand to answer everybody’s questions throughout the day.
There were many other interesting cars at Brooklands on Saturday, including a Le Mans Harrier LR9, Mini Cooper s, Metro 6R4, E-Type Jaguar, Fiat 124 Abarth Gp4 and several other Ferraris.
It really was a great day out for the Foskers team and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. If you missed it this time then make sure you make a note in your diary for next year, this is not one to be missed. We will certainly be back and hopefully with all three race cars.
