Following a successful first season in the Pirelli Ferrari Classic series last year Richard Fenny spoke to the team at Foskers on ways to improve the performance of his racing 308 GT4.
Improved braking, less weight and more power seemed like the answer!
So over the winter months the team have been hard at work initially on brake upgrade and weight reduction.
After detailed discussion with Richard agreed work on the engine though first he wanted to see what the existing power output was. The Dyno run showed 206bhp at the flywheel surprisingly good, in Richard's view, for a standard engine with almost 50k miles and over 30 years old.
Since January Richard has been working on the engine fitting new high compression pistons and hi lift cams in conjunction with other modifications to achieve both an increase in horsepower whilst retaining the torque of the engine. With the gearbox assembly removed from the vehicle it offered a god opportunity to take a look at the inside and access the synchro hubs and gears. As the gearbox was known to operate very well and with no obvious signs of damage it only required the replacement of oil seals and gaskets to make it ready. The differential unit was also inspected at this time but was not in such good order but with some new limited slip plates, an overhaul of the bearings and a re shim, it was ready to go again.
The car is due to be out testing in April ready for the first race of the 2009 season at Donington Park on May 4th.
