Recently James at Eurospares, the company renowned for supplying parts for exotic Italian cars had a dilemma. He had an idea but needed some help to make it happen. James had a car that was already partly dismantled but was going to need a lot more help to make this project happen. He wanted to restore a 246. With 40 years of experience a phone call to Jeff Fosker was the obvious choice to discuss how to take on a project of this size.

It was decided that the best course of action was to get the car and all its parts to Foskers, for Jeff to have a good look at and come up with a plan.

The car is a 1971 early series 2 with wind up windows, wrap round front bumpers, early grill, lower front panel, single oil filler, very early radiator mountings and heater system. The rear of the car also had original number plate lights enclosed in the bumper ends. As Jeff sorted through the boxes of parts it became instantly apparent that this was a very early car, including narrow mounting gearbox, early drop gears, breather system, glass Daytona fuel filter, starter main cables running through the nearside body sill as oppose to the centre location of the later cars along with many more details that Jeff had not seen for years.

On close inspection of the main body and chassis we discovered that all the body trims and chrome had the matching factory body numbers stamped on them. Now Jeff knew this was a very rare find indeed, a car that was complete and untouched.

Further discussions and plans were drawn up, this car had to be perfect and original, not over restored, total originality was the only option.

With James now sourcing the list of required parts with originality paramount, Foskers began work on the engine and gearbox. Jeff was tempted out of the office to oversee suspension and body restoration. With the gathered expertise now focused on this project this will be a very special project indeed.
